GARDEN CENTRE SUPPORT FOR FEED THE CHILDREN

Feed The Children (UK) volunteers, Pat Bowcroft and Claire Edwards, supported the charity’s fundraising manager, Gill Edwards, when the Caerphilly Garden Centre invited the charity to attend their Wildlife Weekend on 24th/25th October.
This was the third time that Feed The Children had been invited to have a stall at the event with the opportunity to raise both their profile and much needed funds. The event was free to the public and various groups brought reptiles, amphibians, meerkats, skunks, turtles and owls etc. for the public to see and hold, so quite an attraction. Several charities were invited to have stalls and were all sited under a huge covered area leading out to the outdoor section.
“It was a little quieter than normal with torrential rain lashing the Caerphilly area, whilst the rest of the country basked in an Indian Summer,” says Gill, “but we still raised £150 over the 2 days and had time to talk to people about our vital work with vulnerable children and offer to do presentations for groups, churches, schools, W.I. etc. in the future. So hopefully we have made some good contacts.”
The Feed The Children display included Rumble in the Jungle, a fundraising initiative with jungle animals, some lovely pieces of African jewelry, guess the number of sweets in the clown’s bowl and a children’s lucky dip. Pat Bowcroft, a local volunteer, and Gill’s daughter, Claire, gave Gill some excellent support. Pat is a retired teacher and had brilliant interaction with both parents and children at the stall, and distributed many information leaflets for them to take into school after half term.
Concludes Gill, “It was a pleasure to attend as the staff at the centre are always very helpful and friendly and go out of their way to make these events fun for everyone. We had a great time and look forward to returning next year.”
