READING HOTELS SUPPORT BREAKFAST2LIVE

Four major Reading town centre venues have signed up to support Twyford-based Feed The Children (UK) in their Breakfast2Live campaign. The four, all owned by Nilvip Holdings Limited, are:
- Mercure George Hotel, King Street
- Dickens Bar and Brassiere, King Street
- Quality Hotel, Duke Street
- Royal Tandoori, Duke Street
All through the week, Sunday 28th February to Sunday 7th March, these hotels and restaurants, located in Reading’s town centre, will be donating 20% to the charity from every customer who presents a special voucher with a further 10% being discounted off the customer’s total bill (which they can also donate to the charity if they wish).
“General Manager of the Mercure George Hotel, Stewart Hall, says; “I have experienced people in third world countries having had to queue up for bread. We don’t realise how easy we truly have it. We at Nilvip Holdings wish to support and bring the message closer to home by helping people to help people, which is the core message behind Breakfast2Live.”
Says Priya Gehlot, Feed The Children’s regional fundraiser, “We are encouraging people to support this initiative because everyone wins, especially all the vulnerable people we serve at home and abroad. See our supporters in the street or visit www.breakfast2live.org.uk to download a voucher to take into any of the hotels and restaurants taking part.
“In Africa it costs just 17p to feed a child a day or £5 a month,” continues Priya. “Just imagine how many hundreds of thousands of people will benefit if people support Breakfast2Live. The campaign encourages people to eat a hearty breakfast or meal and help to save someone’s life at the same time.”
During the week Sunday 28th February to Sunday 7th March 2010, cafes, restaurants, schools, colleges, businesses and people at home got involved by staging breakfast events to raise money for the charity’s life saving projects in developing countries and breakfast clubs in this country.
The charity has a number of ideas that people can use:
- You can host a breakfast and invite friends (get items donated and then charge a small fee of say £5.00 per breakfast).
- Restaurants and cafes can donate a small percentage of the price of a special ‘Breakfast2Live’ on the menu to the charity, or have a collection tin on the day and ask for donations to the charity from everyone eating in the restaurant.
- If you have regular coffee mornings, get a batch of cakes or breakfast muffins donated or baked, invite your friends along and if everyone pays about £1.50 for a cup of tea or coffee and a muffin you can raise money that way.
