PERFECT  DAY FOR RUN AND WALK RAISES MUCH NEEDED CASH FOR FEED THE CHILDREN

Over 300 registered runners and walkers, 50% increase on last year, from cross country racers to dog walkers and weekend ramblers, raised over £2,500 (a 50% increase on last year) for Feed The Children (UK) yesterday (Sunday 6th September) when they strode out to take part in the Samuel Hood Memorial 10K Peppard Fun Run/7K Walk in Rotherfield, Peppard, Oxon.

Overall winner and first man home was Trevor Hunter (age 40) from Marlow, Bucks who finished in just 36 minutes 47 seconds, whilst first woman was Belinda Tull (age 38), who was also the first lady last year, from South Stoke, Oxfordshire, who recorded a time of 43 minutes 7 seconds.  All winners received trophies sponsored by www.bookrabbit.com and Trevor’s name will go on the annual BookRabbit.com winner’s shield.

In the junior ranks, first boy home was 12-year-old Harvey Jensen from Reading, with a time of 56 minutes 39 seconds.  The fastest girl was Fran Pitcher (age 16) from Peppard, who won it in 2003, who recorded a time of 1 hr 14 mins 7 seconds.

“It was a perfect day for running and it was great to see so many people of all ages and abilities turn out to help us raise money for the charity in this event, which appealed to everyone from serious runners to families with children,” said Feed The Children’s project manager, Sally Brown. “We are grateful to all our sponsors and supporters who have helped us to raise this money to help children and families in desperate circumstances. Every penny counts.  We are also grateful to the continuing support from Peppard Organising Committee who established the event for us.”

The runners and walkers were fortified with free bananas courtesy of Fyffes and water from Thames Water. Beville’s estate agents of Sonning Common provided the runners’ numbers and www.bookrabbit.com, who sponsored the trophies. The race started and finished at Greys Green Golf Course thanks to the owners, Mr and Mrs Alexander Hood. The money was raised through the entry fees and sponsorship for the race and walk.
