GINNY WINS THE CUP
Ginny Foley from Earley is celebrating having won the BookRabbit.com trophy for raising the most sponsorship money for Feed The Children (UK) when she took part in the Samuel Hood Memorial 10K Peppard Fun Run/7K Walk in Rotherfield, Peppard, Oxon recently.
Over 300 people registered to run or walk in the annual event and Ginny raised £150. Feed The Children chief executive, Brian Main, presented Ginny with the trophy at an Inner Wheel meeting at Sonning Golf Club on October 15th.This was the first time that Ginny had entered the Peppard Walk.
Says Ginny, “For family and personal reasons I took part in the Race for Life for Cancer Research in Prospect Park this year. It was a 5K walk, which I did not find particularly challenging, a ‘walk in the park’ in fact. I remembered the Peppard Walk was a 7k walk and thought I would try that next.
“I have been overseas representative for the Inner Wheel of Reading Maiden Erlegh for three years and each time in the past I have chosen Feed The Children as my overseas charity,” continued Ginny. “I was looking for ways of raising money for Inner Wheel overseas charities and rather than organise a coffee morning, I decided because I had seen the Peppard Run advertised on the website over the years, to take part and ask members of the Inner Wheel club, friends, family and colleagues at work to sponsor me for the price of a cup of coffee and piece of cake instead. Because of everyone’s generosity I was able to raise the amount I did.”
Ginny still works full time and is not a regular walker but she really enjoyed the Peppard Walk. The September weather was perfect, although the hills and stiles on the walk were more of a challenge than Prospect Park.
Ginny will be 60 later this month. Having lived in Earley for 30 years, Ginny is married with two children, a son and daughter. Her son and his wife live in Panama with Ginny’s two and half year old grandson, and her daughter and her husband live in Woodley. There will be a happy end to Ginny’s year as both her daughter and daughter in law are expecting baby girls in December.
