Help Feed The Children with a Family Day Out

The Jones family from Sonning Common are inviting everyone to join them on a sponsored family walk to raise money for families that Twyford based Feed The Children (UK) supports in this country and around the world. The Peppard walk and run starts at Grey’s Green Golf Course, Rotherfield Peppard on Sunday 6th September.
It is the Jones family’s third Peppard Walk. This year Rob, Pauline, Lucy (4) and Alice (9) will be joined by eight other family members. Originally taking part as a family of four they enjoyed the first one, with Lucy in a back carrier, so much that they have since encouraged more of their family to take part.
The walk/run starts from Greys Green Golf Course, adjacent to the Ruchetta Restaurant at Peppard Common, on the B481 Reading to Nettlebed Road, RG9 5JU. For keen athletes and fun runners alike there is a 10k run, which starts at 10.30am and for leisure walkers and families (including the dog!) there is a shorter 7k route starting at 10.35am. Registration for both commences at 9.30am.
There will be trophies to be won for the person or group of people who raise the most sponsorship, medals for the first man, first woman, first boy and first girl (under 16) and everyone who participates receives a certificate. Entry fee for runners is £8 in advance or £12 on the day, walkers, £5 in advance and £6 on the day. All children under 16 are £1. Anyone who would like to go that extra mile and raise sponsorship please ring 0118 9320 095 and ask for an official sponsorship form.
Says Pauline, “Rob and I used to walk a lot of long distances but having 9 and 4 year old girls the distances have reduced, but as a family we still enjoy walking, especially living in such a beautiful part of the country. Last year Lucy, then just 3 years old, managed to walk most of the way round and we were the last to cross the finish line.
“The walk is a nice distance for all ages, through lovely countryside, is so well organised, everyone is so friendly and the money raised goes to a great cause,” continues Pauline.
“As a mother, Feed The Children is a charity that hits home. My children are so privileged to have a large supportive family, a safe place to live and be educated, and always a large plate of the best food in front of them three times a day. It is sometimes so easy to forget the millions of children, through no fault of their own, find themselves in an impossible situation.
“The Peppard Walk is a great way to raise money, especially for me,” says Pauline “walking with my daughters and my family. Much to my daughters’ disappointment, we have no dog to walk alongside us.”
All proceeds are for Feed The Children (UK), the children’s charity, which works worldwide, as well as within the UK, to develop sustainable communities and provide food and other necessities for those in great need. The charity concentrates aid on children suffering the effects of poverty, especially those who have been orphaned or abandoned. The charity believes that wherever there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it is always the children who are most vulnerable.
Feed The Children is also seeking volunteers for the event, about 40 people are needed to help register participants, man the water stations and marshal the course. Anyone interested in running, walking or volunteering for this worthy cause can download a registration form from our website, www.feedthechildren.org.uk or please call us on 0118 932 0095 if you want to find out more about volunteering on the day.
